Hey Siri: Define the Middle East

Monday, November 18th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00p.m. in the Library Room 535

Ottenheimer Library, the Multicultural Center, the Diversity Council, and A.W.A.R.E. are collaborating to help enhance the UA Little Rock community’s understanding of what, where, and who the “Middle East” is.  The panel discussion will consider the role of religion in the Middle East, the problem with generalizing the Middle East as one homogenous, monolithic region/culture, how the relationship between the US and Middle East affect Middle Eastern immigrants in America, and what are the impacts and challenges specifically related to Middle Eastern immigrants in Arkansas. Free food will be provided. The following faculty members will be participating in a panel discussion to answer, “Hey Siri, define the Middle East.”

Living, Working, Interning, and Studying Abroad in Asia

Monday, November 18th from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. in the DSC Leadership Lounge

Are you interested in what it is like to live, work, intern, or study abroad in Asia? Come learn first hand from UA Little Rock students and staff who lived, worked, interned, and studied abroad in Asia. Free food will be provided.

“The Bands Visit” Movie Night

Monday, November 18th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  in the Student Services Center 104

“The Bands Visit” is part of the Middle Eastern Studies 2019 Fall Film Series.  A band comprised of members of the Egyptian police force head to Israel to play at the inaugural ceremony of an Arab arts center, only to find themselves lost in the wrong town.

International Celebration Day

Tuesday, November 19th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  in DSC Ledbetter Hall

On Tuesday, November 19, UA Little Rock will celebrate the diversity of world cultures represented on campus. The event, which will occur in DSC rooms A, B, and C from 11:00am to 1:00pm, will feature interactive displays, posters, music, and food. UA Little Rock Intercultural Communication students will present educational posters on communicating across cultures. Various student groups will share their music and dances throughout the day. Representatives from dozens of campus and student organizations representing over 20 national cultures will distribute information and discuss career and volunteer opportunities throughout the world. In addition, the UA Little Rock Office of Study Abroad will be present to provide information about study abroad programs and other international opportunities.

International and American friends join together to celebrate this American cultural holiday of Thanksgiving. Seating is open to the community – Stop by the Student Experience Center (DSC 216) to reserve your tickets.

Interfaith Dialog Lunches

Thursday, November 21st from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  in the Leadership Lounge

Come take part in an opportunity for students to get better acquainted with the faith and worldview of other students: Thursday, November 21st from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The event will be located in the DSC 205 G (Leadership Lounge).
