It’s my pleasure to announce the restructure and realignment of the division of Student Affairs. This new organizational structure will allow the division to make substantial, impactful change, and will advance the vision that has been created for UALR. We were able to create this new organizational structure within our existing resources by reallocating open positions to establish a focus on needed areas.
Several changes were put in place in response to a comprehensive review of the division of Student Affairs. One recommendation was to align departments in such a way that we could capitalize on their strengths through strategic collaboration. In response, three assistant vice provost positions have been created.

- Amber Smith, Assistant Vice Provost for Student Affairs – Student Experience and Leadership Development
- Sharon Downs, Assistant Vice Provost for Student Affairs – Inclusion and Wellness / Associate Dean for Division Strategy.
Searches are under way for a director of Campus Living (formerly Housing) and for a director of the Disability Resource Center.
I would also like to congratulate Jeff Newton in his new role as the Director of Trojan Card and Campus Living Systems, Rodolfo Morales as the Director of the Donaghey Student Center and Recreational Facilities, and Richard Harper as the Assistant Dean of Students / Senior Conduct Officer.
In addition, a Student Affairs Development Officer will be hired soon. This person will oversee fundraising projects and will develop relationships with donors in order to better meet budget goals while increasing long-term program sustainability.
With this realignment of our resources, the division of Student Affairs will be better equipped to help students succeed. We look forward to working with the campus community toward this common goal.
