Prof. Hummel leads social justice professional development for K-12 teachers

Exploring Social Justice in the Classroom 2/22/19, 10am-3pm

UALR English professor, Heather Hummel, has designed a collaborative learning experience that will help educators bring social justice issues into the classroom. Hummel’s social justice-themed poems, “Elizabeth Eckford’s Walk Toward Central High School” and “The Fact of a HandSewn, Child-Sized Klan Robe” were both nominated for national awards. She has also recently collaborated with her students to build the digital resource #Black Lives Matter: A Poetry Reader. Attendees should expect to leave with a wealth of knowledge and resources about incorporating social justice issues into their content areas.

Sponsored by the National Writing Project and the National Parks Service.
