Course Overview

Prerequisites: SOWK 1301; Senior status in BSW Program. Addictions in Social Work provides an introduction to core concepts in the addiction field. An overview of historical, biological and psychosocial perspectives on addiction, a summary of the current trends in addictions and substance use, the influence of multicultural factors, how addiction is understood and treated by professionals, including preventative interventions, basic assessment methods, evidence-based interventions from a strengths perspective, and relapse prevention. Three credit hours.
