Private Donor Scholarships at UA Little Rock are available for current students who meet the scholarship criteria.

  • If you currently have a UA Little Rock private scholarship, it may be renewable. The scholarship cannot be renewed unless there is a current application on file.
  • Private scholarship awards may impact other sources of financial aid administered through UA Little Rock.
  • All scholarship recipients are required to write a personal letter of thanks to the donor before scholarship funds are posted.
  • Private scholarships are awarded based on availability of funds and are subject to change.
  • Scholarships are awarded for the 2022-2023 school year.
  • All questions regarding scholarships are to be directed to the Office of Admissions, students should not contact donors directly.

University of Arkansas Foundation Scholarships

Arkansas Association of Women Lawyers Bowen Student Chapter Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be the elected incoming President of the AAWL Student Chapter, be in good academic standing, served on the executive committee the previous year, and committed a minimum of 10 hours of public service to AAWL. 

Attig Curran Steel Endowed Law Scholarship for Veterans

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a full- or part-time student in good standing of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, be a veteran who has served at a minimum 90 consecutive days in active military service, and intend to remain in Arkansas to practice law. Preference will be given to recipients who are veterans and who are from historically under-privileged or under-represented communities. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Essay:  Applicants must write a short essay of 250 words or less describing their intent to practice in Arkansas and to serve under-represented communities.

Bell and Company Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in law.  Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. Preference will be given to students with advanced standing who plan to pursue non-legal careers in business and non-profit settings.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing why applicant qualifies for this scholarship.

The Ben Core Arkansas Association of Defense Counsel Scholarship

Purpose: To honor Ben Core of Fort Smith and to reward students who follow Mr. Core’s example of excellence in trial advocacy and civility and high ethical standards.

Requirements: Awarded to a full-time or part-time student entering his or her final year at the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. Selections will be limited to students who exhibit particular excellence in trial advocacy with a particular emphasis on civility and high ethical standards.

Black Law Student Association Scholarship

Purpose: Provide assistance for educational related expenses for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a member of BLSA and academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. 

Blakley E. Miles Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Blakley E. Miles, reward students whose work will represent the ideals held by Ms. Miles during her lifetime, and to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a juris doctorate at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be an incoming first-year full- or part-time student.  Preference shall be given to students graduating from Arkansas high schools or universities, and possess attributes of character, leadership, respect, and service activities.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Bowen Law School Part-Time Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient (s) shall be a part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Preference will be given to students who work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

Brenda Simpson Book Award

Purpose: The purpose of the book award shall be to provide assistance for education-related expenses, including but not limited to the costs of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a non-traditional student in good standing and is a US Veteran or a spouse or child of a veteran. Financial Aid will be considered.

Essay: Applicants must submit a 500 words or less describing how they will incorporate the values and experiences of their military service into their new legal profession.

Brett Gary Blakney Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory Brett Blakney and provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full- or part-time first-year student majoring in law.  Preferences shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing their financial need, the experiences in their life that lead them to apply to law school and how they plan to use their law degree.

The Chad Farris Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the memory and wishes of Chad Farris.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full- or part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Preference shall be given to students who have shown an interest in labor law.  Consideration will be given to students with a demonstrated desire to work traditionally disenfranchised individuals, academic accomplishment, and financial need.

Class of 2006 Endowed Book Award

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: Recipient shall be in good standing and a full- or part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Consideration shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Connie Brown Phillips Endowed Book Award

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: Recipient shall be in good standing and a full- or part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and employed a minimum of 30 hours per week.  Preference will be given to non-traditional students.  Consideration shall be given to student who demonstrates financial need.

Courtney N. Little Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Recipient will have a strong interest in construction, real estate or business law; non-traditional status will be strongly considered; financial need will be strongly considered.

Dean John Hugh Carmichael Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to law school tuition, law school books, and law school fees.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full- or part-time second or third-year law student, be in the upper one-half of their class, and demonstrate need.

Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz Class of 2017 Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To honor Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz and to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good academic standing; a rising 2L; and reflect Bowen’s core values:  access to justice, public service, and professionalism while attending the William H. Bowen School of Law; and have a minimum of 75 hours of community service logged with the Dean’s office between matriculation date and the date of application.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To honor Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz and to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be an entering 1L student with financial need.

Dean R. Morley Pulaski County Bar Foundation Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Dean R. Morley and provide assistance to students who possess a desire to practice law in Pulaski County and who exhibit need for assistance with tuition and fees associated with the cost of pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time in good standing.  Preferences shall be given to residents of Pulaski County and/or those who possess a present intent to practice law in Pulaski County.  Consideration shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Donna S. Galchus Endowed Law Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Donna S. Galchus, a founding member of Cross, Gunter, Witherspoon & Galchus and provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full-time student majoring in law, with a GPA of 3.0, and an interest in pursuing a career in labor and employment law.  Strong consideration shall be given to financial need.

Gill Ragon Owen, P.A. Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient must be a 2L or 3L in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. The recipient must have clerked or has plans to clerk for the Gill Ragon Owen Firm. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Glenn Edgar Pasvogel, Jr. Memorial Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education-related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good standing at the William H. Bowen School of Law; consideration will be given to financial need. 

Guy A. Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund

Purpose: To honor Guy A. Moore and to provide educational related expenses, including but not limited to textbooks and supplies, living expenses, fee, and tuition.

Requirements: Recipient must have completed one semester at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and be in good standing.  Preferences shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need, scholarship, and academic accomplishment.

Gwendolyn Dewees Hodge Memorial Book Award

Purpose: To honor the memory of Gwendolyn Dewees Hodge and to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: Recipient must be a part-time student in good standing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Preference shall be given to students who wish to pursue a career in Public Service; those who exhibit attributes possessed by Ms. Hodge including character, leadership, and a commitment to community service.  Consideration shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Hispanic Law Student Association Scholarship

Purpose: Provide assistance for educational-related expenses for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a member of HLSA and academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

Hispanic Law Student Association Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time 2L or 3L student.  Preference shall be given to students who are a member of the Hispanic Law Student Association and demonstrate financial need.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing their involvement and commitment to HLSA.

The Honorable Dustin McDaniel Endowed Law Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Students must have demonstrated a commitment to Public Service with preference being given to those that have received the Dean’s Certificate of Service or the Dean’s Certificate of Distinguished Service.  Preference will be given to students clerking at McDaniel, Wolff & Benca, PLLC. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Essay:  Applicants must submit a statement of 250 words or less describing their interest in public interest law.

The Jack Morton Wilhelm Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance for a law school student.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student of law.  Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need and are in good academic standing.

Jack Wagoner III Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: To recognize the contributions of Jack Wagoner III to the legal community and central Arkansas and to provide financial assistance, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law with a minimum GPA of 3.25, a member in good standing of the Young Democrats Club, having completed his or her first year.

James E. Baine Endowed Scholarship Fund

Purpose: The purpose of the scholarship is to honor James E. Baine and his dedication to the legal profession and provide financial assistance for a law school student.

Requirements: Recipient shall be in good standing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and be a member of the McClellan Senate of the Delta Theta Phi International Law Fraternity or its successors.  Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and leadership.

James W. Spears Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize the commitment, love for teaching, and contributions of James W. Spears, who taught the legal community of central Arkansas.  The fund will provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, and fees for any student interested in pursuing classes in the Legal Clinic at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient must apply and be accepted into a Legal Clinic course.

Jewell Minnis Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Jewell Minnis.

Requirements: Awarded to a student that demonstrates financial need, academic ability, leadership, and service record.

John A. Fogleman Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of John A. Fogleman

Requirements: Recipient must be a member in good standing with the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity at UA Little Rock Bowen School of Law. Financial Need, Scholarship, and leadership will also be considered.

John F. Lovell, Jr. Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To honor John F. Lovell. The scholarship will provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Scholarship shall be awarded to a Bowen Law student who has completed his or her first year of law school and intends to practice in a rural Arkansas community. Recipient should have a keen interest in trial advocacy. Financial need will be strongly considered

Essay: Applicants must submit a 500 word essay describing their personal experience and commitment to rural Arkansas as well as their interest in trial advocacy.

John T. Haley Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of John T. Haley.

Requirements: Recipient must demonstrate financial need and possess ability to quality him or her as eligible to be admitted to the practice of law upon graduation and passing the bar exam.

John N. Stern Scholars Fund

Purpose: The purpose of the scholars fund is to honor the career and service of John N. Stern.  Provide educational-related expenses to first-year students enrolled in the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to students demonstrating Mr. Stern’s attributes of intelligence, initiative, and enthusiasm for learning.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a resident of Arkansas and be enrolled as a full-time first-year law student. Preference shall be given to students from Jefferson County, demonstrate attributes of intelligence, initiative, and enthusiasm for learning.

Josh E. McHughes Commercial Bar Review and Bar Application Annual Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide a scholarship to a student who has completed their jurist doctor and needs assistance with the cost of a commercial bar review course or funds to apply for the bar exam application.

Requirements: The recipient must have applied for graduation with UALR William H. Bowen School of Law Registrar’s office and is certified to graduate prior to funding being released. Financial need will be strongly considered. Another consideration will be the degree to which the student has taken advantage of the bar passage-focused programs and courses offered by the law school.

Judge Audrey R. Evans Endowed Law Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a non-traditional student in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Students must have demonstrated a commitment to Public Service with preference being given to those that have received the Dean’s Certificate of Service or the Dean’s Certificate of Distinguished Service. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Judge Floyd Lofton Endowed Part Time Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Recipient must intend to remain in Arkansas to practice. Preference will be given to recipient who are working and have a family. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Judge George Howard, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Judge George Howard, Jr. and to provide financial assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fee, and room and board for student pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law, maintain a 3.25 GPA.  Preference shall be given to second and third year law students, and individuals who may be the first in their family to pursue a graduate degree or overcome significant economic hardship.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing how they meet the scholarship criteria.

Judge Oren Harris Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Judge Oren Harris

Requirements: Recipient shall demonstrate financial need, academic ability, leadership, and service record.

Judge Vicki and Dr. Ken Cook Endowed Law Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a part-time 1L who will be attending the William H. Bowen School of Law at University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the fall. Preference will be given to students who are single parents. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Judges Rita & Wayne Gruber Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education-related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law. Financial need will be strongly considered. Recipient must have demonstrated a commitment to public service with preference given to those who have received the Dean’s Certificate of Service or the Dean’s Certificate of Distinguished  Services.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing their community service efforts.

Justice Rhonda Wood and Dr. Michael Wood Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education-related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient may be an entering 1L at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law or a current University of Arkansas William H. Bowen School of Law student in good standing. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Latin American Law Student Association 1L Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for first-year students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements:  Recipient shall be a full or part-time 1L student in good standing as an active member of the Latin American Law Student Association. Active membership will be determined by current due paying membership as well as the attendance of at least 3 general meetings or events conducted by LALSA. The recipient shall be required to be a part of the Scholarship Banquet Committee in the Spring of their 1L year. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Martha Jean McHaney and Clark W. Mason Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good standing.  Preference shall be given to first generation college graduates.  Consideration will be given to financial need.

Medlock Law Firm Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education-related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a 2L or 3L student in good standing at the William H. Bowen School of Law.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Melanie Huckaba Martin Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Students must have demonstrated a commitment to Public Service with preference being given to those what have received the Dean’s Certificate of Service or the Dean’s Certificate of Distinguished Services.  Financial need will be strongly considered.

Essay:  Applicants must submit a statement of 300 words or less describing their community service efforts.

Monterrey & Tellez Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law and a member in good standing of the Hispanic Law Student Association.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing their involvement in the Hispanic community and commitment to the Hispanic Law Student Association.

Nancy Hall Bailey Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Nancy Hall Bailey and to benefit exceptional non-traditional students by providing financial assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing, furthering a degree, or continuing education in law at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a non-traditional student; defined as a person who has been out of formal school for a period of five years or more and have life experiences that are different from traditional students.  Consideration shall be given to academic accomplishment and demonstrated financial need.

Osborne/Gardner “Beating the Odds” Endowed Book Award

Purpose: Honor the life, legacy, philanthropy, and spirit of the donors and foster future public service attorneys.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a nontraditional student in good standing.  Preference shall be given to concurrent JD/MPS students; applicants with dependent children; full- or part-time employment; a first-generation college graduate; and/or demonstrate the following attributes character, leadership, and distinguished public service.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Professors Sarah Howard Jenkins and Kenneth S. Gallant Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The student shall have received the top paper in Conflict of Laws.

Pulaski County Bar Foundation Colonel William A. Martin Annual Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing a degree or continuing an education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient shall be an incoming third year law student at the William H. Bowen School of Law whose academic record shows it likely that the student will graduate and become a member of the bar. The student shall have a record of participation in extracurricular activities in either law school or undergraduate college or both, or in civic activities that demonstrate a commitment to serving others so as to forecast a probable continuation of voluntary service to the bar association or civic organizations or both after becoming a member of the bar.

Pulaski County Bar Foundation Greg Kitterman Memorial Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance for educational-related expenses.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full- or part-time entering 1L from Pulaski County or who plans to practice in Pulaski County.  Consideration will be given to financial need.

Pulaski County Bar Foundation Justice Donald L. Corbin Memorial Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance for educational-related expenses.

Requirements: Recipient shall be an entering full- or part-time student 1L from Pulaski County, or who plans to practice in Pulaski County.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Randi and Tim Hutchinson Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance for a law school student.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law who has completed their first year and a member in good standing of the Young Republicans Student Organization.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing their community service efforts.

Rowlands Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the fiscal responsibility, hard work, and common sense of goodness of the Rowland Family.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law and is in good standing.  Preference shall be given to students from Pope County and greatest impact on financial needs.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Essay: Applicants should write an essay of 250 words or less describing the scholarship’s return on investment.

St. Thomas More Society Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship shall be to provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree or containing their education in law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and shall have completed the first two years (for full-time students) or three years (for part-time students). Recipient agrees to try to attend the Red Mass & St. Thomas More Luncheon held annually as a guest of the St. Thomas More Society.

Essay: Applicants must submit an essay, the subject of which will be “How My Faith Will Affect My Practice.” The essay shall be less than 500 words.

Sam Laser Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Sam Laser and provide financial assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for any student pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law.  Preference shall be given to third year law students, those who wish to pursue a career as a litigation lawyer.  Consideration shall be given to academic accomplishment and financial need.

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance for a law school student.

Requirements: Preference shall be given to academic performance, community involvement, and demonstrated financial need.

Stephen Holt Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Stephen Holt who died from ALS.  Stephen was a tireless advocate in his 17 years as a lawyer.   The scholarship will serve to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing a degree in law at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a non-traditional student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of law.  Preference shall be given to students who exhibit attributes possessed by Stephen Holt:  character, leadership and a commitment to community and God.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Student Bar Association Endowed Scholarship for Public Service

Purpose: To promote Bowen’s core value of Public Service and to provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient shall be the elected incoming President of the Student Bar Association and must be in good academic standing at the time of taking office.

Ted and Betty Williams Charitable Trust Scholarship

Purpose: To recognize the contributions of Ted and Betty Williams to the community of central Arkansas and to provide financial assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law.  Preference shall be given to second and third-year students.  Consideration shall be given to academic accomplishment and financial need.

Thomas Erskine Downie Memorial Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock student who obtains the highest grade in the Legal Ethics course each semester.

Walmart Legal Diversity Scholarship

Purpose: To promote diversity within the legal community by providing financial assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board, to students who are socially and economically disadvantaged with diverse ethnicity or self-identified LGBT and who are pursuing or furthering a degree, or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student, in good standing, majoring in law, of a diverse ethnicity or self-identified LGBT, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.67 or higher.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Walter Kroptavich Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Students must be currently serving in the active duty or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Services; or a veteran or retired member of the active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Services; or a spouse of an active duty, reserve component, veteran or retired member of the U.S. Armed Forces.  Preference is given to veteran students who show an interest to purse public or military service.  Financial need will be strongly considered.

Essay:  Applicants must submit a statement of 250-300 words describing how they will use their legal education to benefit the veteran and military community.

William H. Bowen School of Law Class Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing a degree or continuing an education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient may be a rising 2L at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law or a current University of Arkansas William H. Bowen School of Law student in good standing. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Purpose: To provide assistance for any education related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing a law degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Harper & Mary Boyer Harb Scholarship Award

Purpose: To honor Harper & Mary Boyer Harb

Requirements: Scholarship for Arkansas residents who are Law students attending the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Law School. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Awards are based on academics, school activities, community service, athletics, future goals, faculty and advisor recommendations, and financial need.

Sandra Wilson Cherry Endowment for Legal Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships to law students who demonstrate financial need.

Requirements: Recipient shall have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Consideration shall be given to financial need, community involvement, and potential to succeed in college.

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient (s) shall be a part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Preference will be given to students who work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

Gwendolyn Dewees Hodge Memorial Book Award

Purpose: To honor the memory of Gwendolyn Dewees Hodge and to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: Recipient must be a part-time student in good standing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Preference shall be given to students who wish to pursue a career in Public Service; those who exhibit attributes possessed by Ms. Hodge including character, leadership, and a commitment to community service.  Consideration shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Judge Vicki and Dr. Ken Cook Endowed Law Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a part-time 1L who will be attending the William H. Bowen School of Law at University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the fall. Preference will be given to students who are single parents. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Judges Rita & Wayne Gruber Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education-related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law. Financial need will be strongly considered. Recipient must have demonstrated a commitment to public service with preference given to those who have received the Dean’s Certificate of Service or the Dean’s Certificate of Distinguished  Services.

Purpose: The purpose of the scholars fund is to honor the career and service of John N. Stern.  Provide educational-related expenses to first-year students enrolled in the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to students demonstrating Mr. Stern’s attributes of intelligence, initiative, and enthusiasm for learning.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a resident of Arkansas and be enrolled as a full-time first-year law student. Preference shall be given to students from Jefferson County, demonstrate attributes of intelligence, initiative, and enthusiasm for learning.

Blakley E. Miles Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Blakley E. Miles, reward students whose work will represent the ideals held by Ms. Miles during her lifetime, and to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a juris doctorate at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be an incoming first-year full- or part-time student.  Preference shall be given to students graduating from Arkansas high schools or universities, and possess attributes of character, leadership, respect, and service activities.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Brett Gary Blakney Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory Brett Blakney and provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full- or part-time first-year student majoring in law.  Preferences shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Requirements:  Recipient shall be a full or part-time 1L student in good standing as an active member of the Latin American Law Student Association. Active membership will be determined by current due paying membership as well as the attendance of at least 3 general meetings or events conducted by LALSA. The recipient shall be required to be a part of the Scholarship Banquet Committee in the Spring of their 1L year. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance for educational-related expenses.

Purpose: To honor Ben Core of Fort Smith and to reward students who follow Mr. Core’s example of excellence in trial advocacy and civility and high ethical standards.

Requirements: Awarded to a full-time or part-time student entering his or her final year at the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. Selections will be limited to students who exhibit particular excellence in trial advocacy with a particular emphasis on civility and high ethical standards.

Dean John Hugh Carmichael Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to law school tuition, law school books, and law school fees.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full- or part-time second or third-year law student, be in the upper one-half of their class, and demonstrate need.

Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz Class of 2017 Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To honor Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz and to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good academic standing; a rising 2L; and reflect Bowen’s core values:  access to justice, public service, and professionalism while attending the William H. Bowen School of Law; and have a minimum of 75 hours of community service logged with the Dean’s office between matriculation date and the date of application.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Gill Ragon Owen, P.A. Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient must be a 2L or 3L in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. The recipient must have clerked or has plans to clerk for the Gill Ragon Owen Firm. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Hispanic Law Student Association Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time 2L or 3L student.  Preference shall be given to students who are a member of the Hispanic Law Student Association and demonstrate financial need.

Jack Wagoner III Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: To recognize the contributions of Jack Wagoner III to the legal community and central Arkansas and to provide financial assistance, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Pulaski County Bar Foundation Colonel William A. Martin Annual Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing a degree or continuing an education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient shall be an incoming third year law student at the William H. Bowen School of Law whose academic record shows it likely that the student will graduate and become a member of the bar. The student shall have a record of participation in extracurricular activities in either law school or undergraduate college or both, or in civic activities that demonstrate a commitment to serving others so as to forecast a probable continuation of voluntary service to the bar association or civic organizations or both after becoming a member of the bar.

Purpose: To honor the memory of Judge George Howard, Jr. and to provide financial assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fee, and room and board for student pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law, maintain a 3.25 GPA.  Preference shall be given to second and third year law students, and individuals who may be the first in their family to pursue a graduate degree or overcome significant economic hardship.

Martha Jean McHaney and Clark W. Mason Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good standing.  Preference shall be given to first generation college graduates.  Consideration will be given to financial need.

Osborne/Gardner “Beating the Odds” Endowed Book Award

Purpose: Honor the life, legacy, philanthropy, and spirit of the donors and foster future public service attorneys.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a nontraditional student in good standing.  Preference shall be given to concurrent JD/MPS students; applicants with dependent children; full- or part-time employment; a first-generation college graduate; and/or demonstrate the following attributes character, leadership, and distinguished public service.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Student Organizations

Arkansas Association of Women Lawyers Bowen Student Chapter Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be the elected incoming President of the AAWL Student Chapter, be in good academic standing, served on the executive committee the previous year, and committed a minimum of 10 hours of public service to AAWL.

Black Law Student Association Scholarship

Purpose: Provide assistance for educational related expenses for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a member of BLSA and academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

Hispanic Law Student Association Scholarship

Purpose: Provide assistance for educational-related expenses for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a member of HLSA and academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

James E. Baine Endowed Scholarship Fund

Purpose: The purpose of the scholarship is to honor James E. Baine and his dedication to the legal profession and provide financial assistance for a law school student.

Requirements: Recipient shall be in good standing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and be a member of the McClellan Senate of the Delta Theta Phi International Law Fraternity or its successors.  Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and leadership.

John A. Fogleman Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of John A. Fogleman

Requirements: Recipient must be a member in good standing with the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity at UA Little Rock Bowen School of Law. Financial Need, Scholarship, and leadership will also be considered.

Latin American Law Student Association 1L Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for first-year students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements:  Recipient shall be a full or part-time 1L student in good standing as an active member of the Latin American Law Student Association. Randi and Tim Hutchinson Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance for a law school student.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law who has completed their first year and a member in good standing of the Young Republicans Student Organization.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing their community service efforts.

Student Bar Association Endowed Scholarship for Public Service

Purpose: To promote Bowen’s core value of Public Service and to provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient shall be the elected incoming President of the Student Bar Association and must be in good academic standing at the time of taking office.

Non-Traditional Students

Brenda Simpson Book Award

Purpose: The purpose of the book award shall be to provide assistance for education-related expenses, including but not limited to the costs of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a non-traditional student in good standing and is a US Veteran or a spouse or child of a veteran. Financial Aid will be considered.

Connie Brown Phillips Endowed Book Award

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: Recipient shall be in good standing and a full- or part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and employed a minimum of 30 hours per week.  Preference will be given to non-traditional students.  Consideration shall be given to student who demonstrates financial need.

Courtney N. Little Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Recipient will have a strong interest in construction, real estate or business law; non-traditional status will be strongly considered; financial need will be strongly considered.

Judge Audrey R. Evans Endowed Law Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a non-traditional student in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Students must have demonstrated a commitment to Public Service with preference being given to those that have received the Dean’s Certificate of Service or the Dean’s Certificate of Distinguished Service. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Nancy Hall Bailey Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Nancy Hall Bailey and to benefit exceptional non-traditional students by providing financial assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing, furthering a degree, or continuing education in law at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a non-traditional student; defined as a person who has been out of formal school for a period of five years or more and have life experiences that are different from traditional students.  Consideration shall be given to academic accomplishment and demonstrated financial need.

Osborne/Gardner “Beating the Odds” Endowed Book Award

Purpose: Honor the life, legacy, philanthropy, and spirit of the donors and foster future public service attorneys.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a nontraditional student in good standing.  Preference shall be given to concurrent JD/MPS students; applicants with dependent children; full- or part-time employment; a first-generation college graduate; and/or demonstrate the following attributes character, leadership, and distinguished public service.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Stephen Holt Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Stephen Holt who died from ALS.  Stephen was a tireless advocate in his 17 years as a lawyer.   The scholarship will serve to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing a degree in law at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a non-traditional student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of law.  Preference shall be given to students who exhibit attributes possessed by Stephen Holt:  character, leadership and a commitment to community and God.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Judge Floyd Lofton Endowed Part Time Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Recipient must intend to remain in Arkansas to practice. First preference will be given to recipient who are working and have a family. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Judge Vicki and Dr. Ken Cook Endowed Law Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a part-time 1L who will be attending the William H. Bowen School of Law at University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the fall. Preference will be given to students who are single parents. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Latin American Law Student Association 1L Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for first-year students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements:  Recipient shall be a full or part-time 1L student in good standing as an active member of the Latin American Law Student Association. Active membership will be determined by current due paying membership as well as the attendance of at least 3 general meetings or events conducted by LALSA. The recipient shall be required to be a part of the Scholarship Banquet Committee in the Spring of their 1L year. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Walmart Legal Diversity Scholarship

Purpose: To promote diversity within the legal community by providing financial assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board, to students who are socially and economically disadvantaged with diverse ethnicity or self-identified LGBT and who are pursuing or furthering a degree, or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student, in good standing, majoring in law, of a diverse ethnicity or self-identified LGBT, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.67 or higher.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Blakley E. Miles Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Blakley E. Miles, reward students whose work will represent the ideals held by Ms. Miles during her lifetime, and to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a juris doctorate at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be an incoming first-year full- or part-time student.  Preference shall be given to students graduating from Arkansas high schools or universities, and possess attributes of character, leadership, respect, and service activities.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Dean R. Morley Pulaski County Bar Foundation Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Dean R. Morley and provide assistance to students who possess a desire to practice law in Pulaski County and who exhibit need for assistance with tuition and fees associated with the cost of pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time in good standing.  Preferences shall be given to residents of Pulaski County and/or those who possess a present intent to practice law in Pulaski County.  Consideration shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

John N. Stern Scholars Fund

Purpose: The purpose of the scholars fund is to honor the career and service of John N. Stern.  Provide educational-related expenses to first-year students enrolled in the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to students demonstrating Mr. Stern’s attributes of intelligence, initiative, and enthusiasm for learning.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a resident of Arkansas and be enrolled as a full-time first-year law student. Preference shall be given to students from Jefferson County, demonstrate attributes of intelligence, initiative, and enthusiasm for learning.

Pulaski County Bar Foundation Greg Kitterman Memorial Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance for educational-related expenses.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full- or part-time entering 1L from Pulaski County or who plans to practice in Pulaski County.  Consideration will be given to financial need.

Pulaski County Bar Foundation Justice Donald L. Corbin Memorial Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance for educational-related expenses.

Requirements: Recipient shall be an entering full- or part-time student 1L from Pulaski County, or who plans to practice in Pulaski County.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Rowlands Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the fiscal responsibility, hard work, and common sense of goodness of the Rowland Family.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law and is in good standing.  Preference shall be given to students from Pope County and greatest impact on financial needs.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Josh E. McHughes Commercial Bar Review and Bar Application Annual Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide a scholarship to a student who has completed their jurist doctor and needs assistance with the cost of a commercial bar review course or funds to apply for the bar exam application.

Requirements: The recipient must have applied for graduation with UALR William H. Bowen School of Law Registrar’s office and is certified to graduate prior to funding being released. Financial need will be strongly considered. Another consideration will be the degree to which the student has taken advantage of the bar passage-focused programs and courses offered by the law school.

Purpose: The purpose of the scholarship is to honor James E. Baine and his dedication to the legal profession and provide financial assistance for a law school student.

Requirements: Recipient shall be in good standing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and be a member of the McClellan Senate of the Delta Theta Phi International Law Fraternity or its successors.  Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and leadership.

Purpose: To provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in law.  Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. Preference will be given to students with advanced standing who plan to pursue non-legal careers in business and non-profit settings.

Brenda Simpson Book Award

Purpose: The purpose of the book award shall be to provide assistance for education-related expenses, including but not limited to the costs of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a non-traditional student in good standing and is a US Veteran or a spouse or child of a veteran. Financial Aid will be considered.

Essay: Applicants must submit a 500 words or less describing how they will incorporate the values and experiences of their military service into their new legal profession.

Brett Gary Blakney Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory Brett Blakney and provide educational related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time first year student majoring in law.  Preferences shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing their financial need, the experiences in their life that lead them to apply to law school and how they plan to use their law degree.

Hispanic Law Student Association Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the award shall be to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time 2L or 3L student.  Preference shall be given to students who are a member of the Hispanic Law Student Association and demonstrate financial need.

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Students must have demonstrated a commitment to Public Service with preference being given to those that have received the Dean’s Certificate of Service or the Dean’s Certificate of Distinguished Service. Preference will be given to students clerking at McDaniel, Wolff & Benca, PLLC.  Financial need will be strongly considered.

John F. Lovell, Jr. Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To honor John F. Lovell. The scholarship will provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Scholarship shall be awarded to a Bowen Law student who has completed his or her first year of law school and intends to practice in a rural Arkansas community. Recipient should have a keen interest in trial advocacy. Financial need will be strongly considered

Essay: Applicants must submit a 500 word essay describing their personal experience and commitment to rural Arkansas as well as their interest in trial advocacy.

Judge George Howard, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Judge George Howard, Jr. and to provide financial assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fee, and room and board for student pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law, maintain a 3.25 GPA.  Preference shall be given to second and third year law students, and individuals who may be the first in their family to pursue a graduate degree or overcome significant economic hardship.

Randi and Tim Hutchinson Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance for a law school student.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law who has completed their first year and a member in good standing of the Young Republicans Student Organization.

Rowlands Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the fiscal responsibility, hard work, and common sense of goodness of the Rowland Family.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law and is in good standing.  Preference shall be given to students from Pope County and greatest impact on financial needs.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Essay: Applicants should write an essay of 250 words or less describing the scholarship’s return on investment.

St. Thomas More Society Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship shall be to provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree or containing their education in law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and shall have completed the first two years (for full-time students) or three years (for part-time students). Recipient agrees to try to attend the Red Mass & St. Thomas More Luncheon held annually as a guest of the St. Thomas More Society.

Essay: Applicants must submit an essay, the subject of which will be “How My Faith Will Affect My Practice.” The essay shall be less than 500 words.

Sam Laser Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Sam Laser and provide financial assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for any student pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law.  Preference shall be given to third-year law students, those who wish to pursue a career as a litigation lawyer.  Consideration shall be given to academic accomplishment and financial need.

Stephen Holt Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Stephen Holt who died from ALS.  Stephen was a tireless advocate in his 17 years as a lawyer.   The scholarship will serve to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing a degree in law at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a non-traditional student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of law.  Preference shall be given to students who exhibit attributes possessed by Stephen Holt:  character, leadership and a commitment to community and God.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Walter Kroptavich Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Students must be currently serving in the active duty or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Services; or a veteran or retired member of the active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Services; or a spouse of an active duty, reserve component, veteran or retired member of the U.S. Armed Forces.  Preference is given to veteran students who show an interest to purse public or military service.  Financial need will be strongly considered.

Essay:  Applicants must submit a statement of 250-300 words describing how they will use their legal education to benefit the veteran and military community.

Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and employed a minimum of 30 hours per week.  Preference will be given to non-traditional students.  Consideration shall be given to student who demonstrates financial need.

Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz Class of 2017 Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To honor Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz and to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good academic standing; a rising 2L; and reflect Bowen’s core values:  access to justice, public service, and professionalism while attending the William H. Bowen School of Law; and have a minimum of 75 hours of community service logged with the Dean’s office between matriculation date and the date of application.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Purpose: To honor Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz and to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Purpose: To honor the memory of Gwendolyn Dewees Hodge and to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: Recipient must be a part-time student in good standing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Preference shall be given to students who wish to pursue a career in Public Service; those who exhibit attributes possessed by Ms. Hodge including character, leadership, and a commitment to community service.  Consideration shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The student shall have received the top paper in Conflict of Laws.

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Arkansas Association of Women Lawyers Bowen Student Chapter Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be the elected incoming President of the AAWL Student Chapter, be in good academic standing, served on the executive committee the previous year, and committed a minimum of 10 hours of public service to AAWL.

Blakley E. Miles Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Blakley E. Miles, reward students whose work will represent the ideals held by Ms. Miles during her lifetime, and to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing a juris doctorate at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be an incoming first-year full- or part-time student. Preference shall be given to students graduating from Arkansas high schools or universities, and possess attributes of character, leadership, respect, and service activities. Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Requirements: Scholarship for Arkansas residents who are Law students attending the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Law School. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Awards are based on academics, school activities, community service, athletics, future goals, faculty and advisor recommendations, and financial need.

Purpose: Honor the life, legacy, philanthropy, and spirit of the donors and foster future public service attorneys.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a nontraditional student in good standing. Preference shall be given to concurrent JD/MPS students; applicants with dependent children; full- or part-time employment; a first-generation college graduate; and/or demonstrate the following attributes character, leadership, and distinguished public service. Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Pulaski County Bar Foundation Colonel William A. Martin Annual Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing a degree or continuing an education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient shall be an incoming third year law student at the William H. Bowen School of Law whose academic record shows it likely that the student will graduate and become a member of the bar. The student shall have a record of participation in extracurricular activities in either law school or undergraduate college or both, or in civic activities that demonstrate a commitment to serving others so as to forecast a probable continuation of voluntary service to the bar association or civic organizations or both after becoming a member of the bar.

Sandra Wilson Cherry Endowment for Legal Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships to law students who demonstrate financial need.

Requirements: Recipient shall have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Consideration shall be given to financial need, community involvement, and potential to succeed in college.

School of Law Alumni Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance for a law school student.

Requirements: Preference shall be given to academic performance, community involvement, and demonstrated financial need.

Stephen Holt Endowed Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship will serve to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing a degree in law at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a non-traditional student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of law. Preference shall be given to students who exhibit attributes possessed by Stephen Holt: character, leadership and a commitment to community and God. Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Student Bar Association Endowed Scholarship for Public Service

Purpose: To promote Bowen’s core value of Public Service and to provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The recipient shall be the elected incoming President of the Student Bar Association and must be in good academic standing at the time of taking office.

Walter Kroptavich Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Students must be currently serving in the active duty or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Services; or a veteran or retired member of the active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Services; or a spouse of an active duty, reserve component, veteran or retired member of the U.S. Armed Forces.  Preference is given to veteran students who show an interest to purse public or military service.  Financial need will be strongly considered.

Essay:  Applicants must submit a statement of 250-300 words describing how they will use their legal education to benefit the veteran and military community.

Career Interests

Bell and Company Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in law.  Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. Preference will be given to students with advanced standing who plan to pursue non-legal careers in business and non-profit settings.

Essay: Applicants must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing why applicant qualifies for this scholarship.

The Chad Farris Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the memory and wishes of Chad Farris.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full- or part-time student at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Preference shall be given to students who have shown an interest in labor law.  Consideration will be given to students with a demonstrated desire to work traditionally disenfranchised individuals, academic accomplishment, and financial need.

Courtney N. Little Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Recipient will have a strong interest in construction, real estate or business law; non-traditional status will be strongly considered; financial need will be strongly considered.

Donna S. Galchus Endowed Law Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Donna S. Galchus, a founding member of Cross, Gunter, Witherspoon & Galchus and provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full-time student majoring in law, with a GPA of 3.0, and an interest in pursuing a career in labor and employment law.  Strong consideration shall be given to financial need.

Gwendolyn Dewees Hodge Memorial Book Award

Purpose: To honor the memory of Gwendolyn Dewees Hodge and to provide educational-related expenses, including but not limited to books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: Recipient must be a part-time student in good standing at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Preference shall be given to students who wish to pursue a career in Public Service; those who exhibit attributes possessed by Ms. Hodge including character, leadership, and a commitment to community service.  Consideration shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

The Honorable Dustin McDaniel Endowed Law Book Award

Purpose:  To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements:  The recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Students must have demonstrated a commitment to Public Service with preference being given to those that have received the Dean’s Certificate of Service or the Dean’s Certificate of Distinguished Service. Preference will be given to students clerking at McDaniel, Wolff & Benca, PLLC.  Financial need will be strongly considered.

John F. Lovell, Jr. Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To honor John F. Lovell. The scholarship will provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees and room and board, for students pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Scholarship shall be awarded to a Bowen Law student who has completed his or her first year of law school and intends to practice in a rural Arkansas community. Recipient should have a keen interest in trial advocacy. Financial need will be strongly considered

Essay: Applicants must submit a 500 word essay describing their personal experience and commitment to rural Arkansas as well as their interest in trial advocacy.

Sam Laser Endowed Law Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Sam Laser and provide financial assistance for any educational-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for any student pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time student majoring in law.  Preference shall be given to third year law students, those who wish to pursue a career as a litigation lawyer.  Consideration shall be given to academic accomplishment and financial need.

Attig Curran Steel Endowed Law Scholarship for Veterans

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a full- or part-time student in good standing of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, be a veteran who has served at a minimum 90 consecutive days in active military service, and intend to remain in Arkansas to practice law. Preference will be given to recipients who are veterans and who are from historically under-privileged or under-represented communities. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Essay:  Applicants must write a short essay of 250 words or less describing their intent to practice in Arkansas and to serve under-represented communities.

Dean R. Morley Pulaski County Bar Foundation Scholarship

Purpose: To honor the memory of Dean R. Morley and provide assistance to students who possess a desire to practice law in Pulaski County and who exhibit need for assistance with tuition and fees associated with the cost of pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full or part-time in good standing.  Preferences shall be given to residents of Pulaski County and/or those who possess a present intent to practice law in Pulaski County.  Consideration shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Judge Floyd Lofton Endowed Part Time Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a full or part-time student in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Recipient must intend to remain in Arkansas to practice. First preference will be given to recipient who are working and have a family. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Pulaski County Bar Foundation Greg Kitterman Memorial Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance for educational-related expenses.

Requirements: Recipient shall be a full- or part-time entering 1L from Pulaski County or who plans to practice in Pulaski County.  Consideration will be given to financial need.

Pulaski County Bar Foundation Justice Donald L. Corbin Memorial Law Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance for educational-related expenses.

Requirements: Recipient shall be an entering full- or part-time student 1L from Pulaski County, or who plans to practice in Pulaski County.  Consideration shall be given to financial need.

Intent to Practice in a Rural/Under-Represented Communities

Attig Curran Steel Endowed Law Scholarship for Veterans

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be a full- or part-time student in good standing of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. The Ben Core Arkansas Association of Defense Counsel Scholarship

Purpose: To honor Ben Core of Fort Smith and to reward students who follow Mr. Core’s example of excellence in trial advocacy and civility and high ethical standards.

Requirements: Awarded to a full-time or part-time student entering his or her final year at the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. Selections will be limited to students who exhibit particular excellence in trial advocacy with a particular emphasis on civility and high ethical standards.

James W. Spears Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize the commitment, love for teaching, and contributions of James W. Spears, who taught the legal community of central Arkansas.  The fund will provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, and fees for any student interested in pursuing classes in the Legal Clinic at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Requirements: Recipient must apply and be accepted into a Legal Clinic course.

Josh E. McHughes Commercial Bar Review and Bar Application Annual Law Scholarship

Purpose: To provide a scholarship to a student who has completed their jurist doctor and needs assistance with the cost of a commercial bar review course or funds to apply for the bar exam application.

Requirements: The recipient must have applied for graduation with UALR William H. Bowen School of Law Registrar’s office and is certified to graduate prior to funding being released. Financial need will be strongly considered. Another consideration will be the degree to which the student has taken advantage of the bar passage-focused programs and courses offered by the law school.

Professors Sarah Howard Jenkins and Kenneth S. Gallant Endowed Book Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The student shall have received the top paper in Conflict of Laws.

Thomas Erskine Downie Memorial Award

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, fees and room and board, to students who are pursuing a degree at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Requirements: The William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock student who obtains the highest grade in the Legal Ethics course each semester.

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of tuition, books, supplies, fees, and any other expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient must be a 2L or 3L in good standing of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. The recipient must have clerked or has plans to clerk for the Gill Ragon Owen Firm. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Purpose: To provide assistance for education related expenses, including but not limited to the cost of books, supplies, fees, and any other       expenses related to attending law school.

Requirements: The recipient shall be in good standing as a full or part-time student of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
